Iowa City City Council Proposes Budget With No Property Tax Increase

(Iowa City, IA) -- Property taxes in Iowa City won't go up next year, though utility fees and other city services might.

Council is proposing a budget increase of just under 3.5% for fiscal 2026 which begins July 1st.

Water rates under the proposed budget would rise 3% while the gas and electric franchise fee would rise 1%.

The first public hearing on the budget is scheduled for April 1. Council will vote on the budget April 15th.
