(Iowa City, IA) -- City Council members in Iowa City say they'll opt to hold a special election to fill the seat being vacated by Andrew Dunn in January, rather than appoint a replacement to serve the rest of his three year term.

Council still has to vote on the issue and set a date.

The Iowa City attorney says a special election in District C would cost around 100-thousand dollars.

The city must notify the Johnson County Auditor of their intentions with 60 days notice.
