(University Heights, IA) -- University Heights residents will be paying an extra one-percent at the cash register beginning next year.

Just 14% of registered voters in the city surrounded by Iowa City turned out for a special election Tuesday to approve a one-percent increase in the local option sales tax.

Half the tax will be used for property tax relief. The other half for law enforcement, parks and rec, public infrastructure, economic development, and City administration.
