(Dyersville, IA) -- Over half-a-million dollars in federal money has been stolen from an eastern Iowa city.

The Dubuque County Auditor says the county complied with an email request to transfer over 524-thousand-dollars in American Rescue Plan money to a bank account they thought belonged to the city of Dyersville. But someone had hacked the city's email system, and created a phony email address and bank account.

The county sheriff's office is investigating. There's no information on who is suspected of the crime.
