(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- A Cedar Rapids contractor is pleading guilty to one count of wire fraud.

48-year-old Scott Gregory Adkins pleaded guilty today in Cedar Rapids Federal Court for scamming customers, including people affected by the Iowa derecho in 2020.

Adkins admitted that his business, Adkins Home Improvement, which he organized two months after the derecho, demanded large advance deposits for home repair services, but rather than completing the projects, Adkins used some of the advanced funds on himself.

He stole over $150,000 between December 2020 and March 2022.

Adkins could face a maximum 20 years behind bars, pay a fine of $250,000, and 3 years of supervised release.
