(Des Moines, IA) -- A new bill being introduced would prohibit students from using cell phones at school. Senate File 2044 would require school boards to create policies banning students from using cell phones during the day, unless allowed by a teacher, required by law, or in use for a specific educational purpose. It would make schools designate a space to store phones, such as a student's locker. The Bill would also require schools to establish a method for parents to readily contact their children during the day. Introduced by Republican Iowa state Senator Brad Zaun of Urbandale, the bill has yet to be debated on.
