(Ames, IA) -- Ames Police have arrested a man accused of killing a woman in an apartment at 5308 Mortensen Road in west Ames last (Thursday) night. Officers found her body around 6:10 p.m. Sac County Sheriff's deputies arrested 26-year-old Oscar Chavez just before midnight last night, near Auburn, Iowa. Chavez in the Story County Jail and is charged with First Degree Murder. Police have not released the woman's name. The body has been transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office.
The Sac County Sheriff's Office says they tried to stop a driver for a stop sign violation in Auburn just before midnight Thursday, August 19th. The Sheriff's Office says the driver, Oscar Chavez was evasive and could not produce identification. Oscar then told the deputy he had shot and killed his girlfriend in Ames earlier that night.
