(Des Moines, IA) -- Landlords in many counties across Iowa, including Polk County, are again banned from evicting their tenants. The Centers for Disease Control announced a new temporary ban on evictions Tuesday for counties with substantial or high coronavirus transmission rates. The ban includes most counties in Iowa. The federal moratorium on evictions that started in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic had expired over the weekend. The CDC says the new moratorium is a response to a recent uptick in coronavirus numbers, including the rise of the Delta variant. The CDC says the ban is intended to target specific areas of the country where cases are rapidly increasing, which likely would be exacerbated by mass evictions. The ban ends October 3rd, 2021.
