Video Captures Woman Jumping Into Frozen Pool To Save Her Dog

When Jennie Tatum saw her dog Sid fall into her frozen swimming pool, she didn't hesitate to jump into the water after him. Surveillance video captured the moment that Tatum broke the two-inch-thick ice and dove into the frozen water.

"It was pure adrenaline," she told WKRN. "I never thought about my hands actually got cut when I was chopping the ice. I didn't think about jumping in the water and me getting hypothermia."

Tatum said that Sid likely went into shock from the cold water as he was not moving at the bottom of the four-foot deep pool. After spending nearly a full minute trapped under the ice, Tatum managed to pull Sid, who weighs about 50 pounds, out of the water and carried him inside to warm up.

She called her neighbor, a veterinarian, who gave Sid a shot that helped stabilize him while they took him to get medical attention.

"She said, 'If we wouldn't have given him that, I don't think he would've made it,'" Tatum told the news station. "His lips were blue, and his tongue was blue."

A veterinarian at the Animal Medical Center, which was about 30 minutes away, told Tatum that she is lucky Sid survived. He is being treated for pneumonia but is expected to make a full recovery.

"The vet actually told me, they said this is a miracle, they didn't think… they said within just a few minutes, his oxygen levels were increasing, they put him in an oxygen room," Tatum said, "He perked up, and they called me, and they said they didn't think he'd have to stay two nights."

Tatum said that when Sid returned home, he was afraid of the backyard but has started to feel more comfortable outside after the ice and snow melted.
