Three Iowa Democratic Congress Members Introduce COVID-19 Data Bill

WASHIBGTON, DC - Three Iowa Democratic Congress members are introducing a bill aimed at shining a spotlight on COVID-19 information.

Representative Abby Finkenauer filed the measure, and was joined by U.S. House members Dave Loebsack and Cindy Axne

The bill would require public disclosure of COVID-19 data errors, and for the correction of those errors to be certified by the federal government.

It would also allow whistleblowers to report errors in COVID-19 data for federal personnel to investigate and resolve.

The bill would further require the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to investigate COVID-19 data collection issues and develop recommended improvements for the government to implement.

In a statement, both Finkenauer and Axne specifically expressed concern about the spread of COVID-19 in Iowa.

Finkenauer will vacate her seat in January after losing her re-election bid to Republican Ashley Hinson.

Representative Loebsack is retiring after serving seven terms in Congress. His replacement is uncertain, as his seat is currently in a recount between Republican Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Democrat Rita Hart.
