IOWA - Both of Iowa's U.S. Senators will be involved the process to fill the vacant seat after the death of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Senators' Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst are members of the Judiciary Committee that Senate Republican leaders say will hold hearings to replace Ginsberg.
Grassley chaired the committee in 2016 when it declined to hold a hearing for President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee.
Grassley said earlier this summer that he would not recommend holding a hearing on a nominee in an election year, while Ernst said in July that the Senate should move forward with the process.
Ernst's re-election campaign released a fundraising email shortly after Justice Ginsberg's death was announced Friday night.
Both Grassley and Ernst joined other Iowa politicians in issuing statements honoring Ginsberg as a trailblazer and icon.
Republican Governor Kim Reynolds and Democratic Congresswoman Cindy Axne of West Des Moines were among the office holders sending messages honoring Ginsberg.
