Construction on the 3rd Avenue Southeast floodgate in Cedar Rapids is set to begin later this month.
KCRG-TV9 reports the floodgate will have removable panels that turn into permanent columns when the Cedar River gets to 22 feet.
The floodgate is also designed to protect up to the 2008 record crest of 31-point-one feet. Construction is set to start on September 21st.
