Iowa City Authorizes Review Of July Protests

The Iowa City City Council has authorized an independent review of protests that took place in earlier this summer on Dubuque Street near I-80.

Police used flash-bangs and pepper spray to break up around 300 to 500 protesters that were approaching the interstate back in July.

Police say protesters were told to turn around but they didn't comply, and that's when officers responded.

Iowa City police say the protesters were told to turn around and officers only used the flash-bangs when they didn’t comply.

On Thursday video from the body cameras of the officers on the scene that night was released. Iowa City leaders say the review should be completed within 90 days of the start date.
