Car Drives Through Black Lives Matter Protest In Times Square

Authorities in New York City are searching for a driver who drove through a crowd of Black Lives Matter protesters in Times Square. Video captured the black sedan honking as a crowd surrounds the vehicle in a crosswalk. Two bike riders can be seen standing in front of the car as the driver accelerates forward, causing the crowd to disperse.

The driver stopped for a brief moment before speeding away as people in the crowd gave chase. Officials said that nobody was injured, though one person claimed to have hurt their hand during the incident.

The New York City Police Department said the vehicle was seen at a pro-Trump rally earlier in the day.

"We have a car traveling up 46th Street, stops at the light," NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea told WNYW. "Just at it hits that intersection, you have the group of protesters- roughly 200 protesters- fate would have it, move in that direction, down 46th Street. This is all captured on video. You have bicyclists block the car from moving. We have two people strike the car window- one with a punch and one banging it. You have the car speed away, very dangerous. As it hits a block or two after, goes up and makes a right. We are real lucky we didn't have a vehicle collision with other cars."

After the incident, protesters claimed the vehicle was an unmarked police cruiser, which the NYPD flatly denied. Officials said it was possible that the owner purchased the car at a police auction.
