As Cedar Rapids residents continue to rebuild following the derecho more than two weeks ago, the City says it will allow the use of RVs as temporary housing.
This includes travel trailers, motor homes, and campers. RV's aren't normally intended for permanent housing, but the city leaders say in this case they can help provide a temporary place to live for people who were displaced or waiting for their homes to be repaired.
The use of RV's will be allowed for temporary housing until November 15. People will have to apply for a zoning clearance permit to use an RV as temporary housing. https://bit.ly/3jfPW2N.
You can sumbit completed applications to zoning@cedar-rapids.org. or drop off paper copy at the City Services Center, 500 15th Avenue SW.
The RV can house the property owners and any immediate family member. The city says RV’s should not be placed on the existing slab for the primary home and must be connected to water, electric, and sewer services.
