A large tree has been removed from the top of the historic Reuben Ash Home estate in Mount Vernon.
KCRG-TV 9 reports a pine tree that stood outside the house since the 1800's came crashing down during last week's derecho.
On Wednesday a 100-ton crane removed the tree from the home. Steven Maurice is the homeowner and talked about the moment when the powerful derecho windstorm blew through.
“Just a big crunch and some broken glass and we felt the ground shook,” Maurice tells KCRG-TV 9.
The family is living in a camper on their property, staying hopeful they can get back in their home soon. They have also applied for a grant with the State Historical Society.
