HACAP Offering Energy Assistance Funds for Recently Laid Off Households

Hiawatha, Iowa (April 24, 2020)–Hawkeye Area Community Action Program (HACAP) has received special permission to qualify households for energy assistance payments, using their layoff or employment termination notice. Between April 24 and May 31, individuals may be able to qualify even if the household income was too high to qualify before being laid off or terminated.

Important information on applying:

  • If you already received energy assistance this past winter (since October 1, 2019), you cannot receive it again.
  • If you applied for energy assistance and were over income or did not complete the application, please apply again.
  • Those applying will need social security cards for everyone in the household, proof of income, your layoff or termination notice, and your power bill.

More information on applying can be found at www.hacap.org/liheap or by calling (319) 739-0100. All HACAP lobbies are currently closed to the public but drop boxes will be available outside for individuals to turn in applications. A full list of these locations can be found on the HACAP website.
