MARION EXTENDS THE CLOSURE OF CITY FACILITIES THROUGH APRIL 30

To protect the health and safety of City employees and the public, the City of Marion is extending the closure of all municipal facilities to the general public through April 30, 2020. This extension aligns with Governor Reynolds’ proclamation extending statewide closures and prohibiting mass gatherings of 10 or more people. The closure date may be modified as needed.

Emergency services continue. Other City staff continue work on-site and remotely to continue offering essential services. Residents and businesses may conduct City business online, by phone or via email. Find contact information and an overview of service implications by department at www.cityofmarion.org/COVID-19response.

A few notable updates:

·The Marion City Council meeting will occur electronically this Thursday, April 9. Instructions for participants are available on the City website.

·The Public Services Department continues to allow Marion residents to place an additional bag or container of garbage at the curb without an extra bag tag. This service has been extended through the end of April.

The City of Marion’s COVID-19 response follows the recommendations of Linn County Public Health (LCPH), the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

City officials urge all residents to do their part to help slow the spread of COVID-19 by staying home except for essential reasons, maintaining a physical distance of 6 feet between themselves and others, and washing hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Doing so will help reduce the spread of the virus, ease the burden on our hospitals and healthcare system, and protect those most vulnerable in our community.

A public hotline has been established for Iowans with questions about COVID-19. The line is available 24/7 by calling 2-1-1 or 1-800-469-2211.

New information will be shared as it becomes available via the City website www.cityofmarion.org and its Facebook and Twitter channels.
