Second Levee Breach In Pottawattamie County Prompts Evacuations

Honey Creek, Iowa - Pottawattamie County Emergency Management is advising those living near the Honey Creek levee to leave their homes. This after a second levee west of the Honey Creek exit on I-29 broke Wednesday afternoon. That happened around 1:45 p.m.

Emergency Management Director Doug Reed says residents of the area, and anyone who doesn't feel safe there, should leave. Mandatory evacuations won't be ordered because the affected is relatively small and contains about 40 homes.

This breach is on a levee that held during the food in March and is just north of the first breach.

Those planning travel on I-29 north of Council Bluffs should check 511ia.org or the 511 app for updates before heading out.
