Second Lane on Hwy. 2 Between Iowa and Nebraska is Open

AMES, Iowa-- A second lane of Iowa Highway 2 between Interstate 29 in Iowa and Nebraska City opened Tuesday afternoon. The Iowa Department of Transportation says traffic delays should be reduced between Iowa and Nebraska.

A single lane was reopened last Friday providing limited mobility to the area. Drivers had significant wait times as a pilot car guided traffic on the stretch of highway.

The Iowa DOT says because there's still water on the road, concrete barrier rails on its edge will keep vehicles on the roadway, while permeable rock will provide a surface for traffic.

This area is susceptible to ongoing threats of flooding and is being closely monitored.
