THE EASTERN IOWA AIRPORT (CID) SMASHED ITS ANNUAL PASSENGER RECORD IN 2018 WITH MORE THAN 1.2 MILLION PEOPLE CHOOSING TO FLY CID.
THAT NUMBER IS 5.4 PERCENT MORE THAN THE PREVIOUS ANNUAL PASSENGER RECORD SET IN 2017.
THIS NEW RECORD HAS ADDED WEIGHT BECAUSE IT IS THE FIRST TIME IN THE AIRPORT’S HISTORY TO HAVE MORE THAN 600,000 PASSENGERS WHO BOARD A PLANE AT CID.
THE AIRPORT ALSO HAD A HISTORICAL HIGH FOR AIR CARGO TRAFFIC IN 2018, WITH MORE THAN 65 MILLION POUNDS OF AIR CARGO BEING SHIPPED IN AND OUT OF CID.
THAT AMOUNT IS 18 PERCENT HIGHER THAN THE NUMBER POSTED IN 2017. WITH THAT TOTAL, CID HANDLES ALMOST 50 PERCENT OF THE STATE’S TOTAL AIR CARGO VOLUME.
THE SIGNIFICANT INCREASES IN CID’S CARGO VOLUME IS PART OF THE REASON THE AIRPORT IS EXPANDING ITS WEST CARGO APRON TO ACCOMMODATE THE GROWING NEED FOR THE AIR CARGO CARRIERS.
CID RECEIVED AN $8.8 MILLION FAA DISCRETIONARY GRANT IN 2018 - THE LARGEST DISCRETIONARY GRANT THE AIRPORT HAS EVER RECEIVED IN ONE YEAR.
