Iowa City is reminding people they are not allowed to use them within city limits.
The City of Iowa City says anyone caught using fireworks in the city faces a minimum $250 fine.
If you want to report illegal fireworks use, you are asked to call 319-365-6800.
The city says there will be two professional and permitted fireworks displays on New Year's Eve. One will be at Hancher Auditorium as the finale to the Kristin Chenoweth show. That display is scheduled to begin at 11:50 p.m. The other display will be at Big Grove Brewery. That display launches at midnight.
