EPA sets ethanol obligations

The Environmental Protection Agency finalized the 2019 fuel volume levels at the end of the week.

The Renewable Fuel Standard requires the EPA to set volume requirements for blending biofuels.

The numbers are consistent with the numbers proposed earlier this year.

Conventional renewable fuel, mainly corn ethanol, will be maintained at the 15 billion gallon target set by Congress. Advanced biofuels will increase to more than 630 million gallons over the 2018 standard to 4.92 billion gallons.

However, the numbers do not account for billions of gallons lost to controversial small-refiner waivers.
