Another messy weather weekend is on store for much of the state as a storm system will bring a wintry to mix to parts of the state starting Friday night. A Winter Storm Watch goes into effect Friday evening and continues into Sunday morning for much of northern and northeast Iowa.
“This storm system looks to affect mainly northern Iowa over the next 72 hours,” said First Alert Storm Team Meteorologist Corey Thompson. “A wintry mix is possible in northern Iowa while in Eastern Iowa we’ll see mostly rain the first part of the weekend.”
Thompson said the rain will turn to snow from northwest to southeast on Sunday as temperatures change, but right now it appears that northern Iowa – specifically north-central Iowa – is most likely to see accumulating snow.
“As always, the storm track can change as it approaches the state and that will have an effect on the storm’s impacts,” Thompson added. “Keep an eye on the latest forecast and we’ll keep you up-to-date on timing and impacts into the weekend.”
