Thousands without Power Monday in JoCo

Thousands of electicity customers were affected by an outage in Johnson County on Monday afternoon before service was restored.

Rod Pritchard with ITC Midwest, the company that handles electrical transmission in the area, said that power was restored by around 3:50 p.m. A transmission issue was the apparent cause of the outage, which is under further investigation by ITC.

Alliant Energy reported nearly 5,000 customers without electricity, beginning as early as 3:16 p.m. on Monday. Linn County Rural Electic Cooperative had around 8,000 customers estimated without power in the same time frame.

The interruption of service was reported by customers from the Coralville, North Liberty, and Tiffin areas.
