The North Liberty Fire Department was called to 391 N. Main Street at 8:58 a.m. Tuesday for a report of smoke coming from the address.
The person who called said they heard a smoke detector and saw smoke before calling 9-1-1.
Within six months of the time they were dispatched,t eh fire department found smoke coming from the front of the apartment.
Firefighters were able to get into the house and extinguish the fire that was in the living room of the apartment.
Authorities say the fire caused an estimated $37,000 in damage.
Officials say they are still investigating the cause of the fire.
