For a place like Garrison with a population of just over 300, raising money for improvements and new equipment to their volunteer fire department is no easy task. However, the town and found something unique around Halloween to help raise those funds.
It's called Garrison's Haunted and it's the biggest fundraiser for the rural fire department.
This year the money raised during Garrison's Haunted will help pay for Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) for the Garrison Fire Department.
Those are the devices that allow firefighters to breathe in fresh air when they're knocking down a fire.
Marv Trimble, the Garrison Fire Chief, said each creepy room is filled with blood, scary dolls, and ghouls.
Almost every member of the fire department helps out each year whether it's scaring visitors, selling tickets, or cooking food.
The money raised each year has helped fund new equipment like firetrucks and new improvements to their fire station, especially after a severe storm came through seven years ago.
"In 2011 our station was pretty much blown down when the derecho went through here on July 11. We not only rebuilt-we added on to our fire station. So we put a little over $100,000 addition onto our station and it was mostly paid for by this haunted house," says Trimble.
Normally a business will lend out their space to the fire department but this year the Garrison Fire Department was able to purchase two buildings to host their haunted house.
One of the buildings was even used as a fireman's hall decades ago called the hook and ladder club.
Last year's haunted attraction brought in $12,000 and this year the fire chief is hoping to surpass that goal.
