Waverly Woman Charged After Cyclist Dies

A woman from Waverly has been charged after a man who was hit in a bicycle vs. car accident in August died.

Authorities say 32-year-oid Nicole Andreessen was driving her car on the 1700 block of Broadway Street at 6:22 p.m. August 22 when she dropped her cigarette.

Andreessen said she kept her eyes on the road as she bent down to pick it up and after doing so she said a bicyclist was there.

Andreessen told police she swerved in an attempt to avoid the bicyclist, identified as Eugene Harding, but did hit him.

Harding had multiple injuries from the crash and was taken to a hospital. He later died from his injuries.

Andreessen's vehicle had damage to the front passenger side and windshield.

A Traffic Investigator with the Waterloo Police Department determined Harding was riding his bike on the right-hand side of the outside lane.

Andreessen has been charged with Operate Vehicle Too Close to Bicyclist.
