CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - About 6,000 drivers take Oakland Road NE in Cedar Rapids each day, especially on the northbound one-way stretch from near Coe College to 32nd Street.
The City of Cedar Rapids is currently working on improving the road. At the end of the month, they'll be converting part of Oakland Road from a one-way road into a two-way road.
Traffic is currently closed between 29th Street to 32nd Street for the next couple of weeks.
During the closure, drivers can take Center Point Road NE to 32nd Street to get around the construction.
Crews have been working on water mains, storm sewers and asphalt resurfacing.
They are also adding a section of sidewalk between 29th Street and 32nd Street for people to walk and ride their bikes
The cost of the project is about $2.8 million for pavement and utility work on Oakland Road and Center Point Road.
