CR Sex Offender Fails to Register

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - A convicted sex offender was sentenced on Thursday for failing to register as a sex offender after moving to Cedar Rapids.

Ricky Lynn Thomas, 62, of Cedar Rapids, received a sentence of two years in federal prison after making a plea agreement with United States Attorneys. As part of the agreement, Thomas admitted he was required to register as a sex offender due to a conviction of second degree criminal sexual conduct involving a minor from an incident in Minnesota in 1992. He relocated to Iowa in March 2017, but did not register as a sex offender before his arrest on January 18, 2018. He was convicted twice in the past for violation of sex offender registry requirements in state court.

Thomas’ sentence includes five years of supervised release after successful completion of his prison term. There is no chance for parole in the federal prison system.
