Tornado Confirmed in Jones Co.

CENTER JUNCTION, Iowa (KCRG) - Meteorologists confirm a weak tornado touched down Wednesday night as storms moved through Jones County.

"The tornado touched down just east of Center Junction," said Meteorologist Justin Gehrts. "As storms moved through late Wednesday night the tornado briefly spun up and produced minor damage."

The tornado, with with estimated peak winds of 80 m.p.h., touched down just before 10 p.m. Wednesday about a mile east of Center Junction. Meteorologists said it was on the ground for nearly three-quarters of a mile and was about 50 yards wide.

Tree branches were snapped and corn was flattened as the tornado traveled across rural areas of Jones County. The tornado was rated an EF0 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale.
