Linn Co. Text Alerts Fail during Tuesday Storms

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Thousands of text messages were sent out by Linn County's Emergency Notification System Tuesday afternoon when a tornado warning was issued. The problem: the texts were delivered after the storms had moved through.

Officials said that the system was overwhelmed when more than 72,000 text messages were generated. The sheer volume of messages caused the delay.

Linn County Emergency Management said they are working with the vendor to investigate the malfunction.
