Hawkeyes Fall to No. 21 Colorado, 4-1

SEATTLE, Wash. -- The University of Iowa volleyball team fell to No. 21 Colorado to conclude the 2018 Pac-12/Big Ten Challenge inside Alaska Airlines Arena on Saturday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

SET 1 (19-25) Iowa opened the match with two strong kills by senior Taylor Louis before the Buffaloes evened the score at three. Iowa surrendered a three point run to make the score 3-6 and the Hawkeyes couldn’t recover. A flurry of kills by senior Reghan Coyle and Louis brought the score within three (19-22). That was as close as Iowa got as Colorado took the first set.

SET 2 (21-25) The Hawkeyes spotted Colorado two points before scoring in the second set. Sophomore Brie Orr’s ace gave Iowa a 5-3 lead before the score evened up at five. The Hawkeyes and Buffaloes went back-and-forth until a four point run by Colorado made the score 14-18. A run by Iowa and freshman Hannah Clayton’s kill and block pulled Iowa within two, but it wasn’t enough and Colorado took set two.

SET 3 (25-23) Iowa fell in the third set 12-17 before kills by Coyle and junior Cali Hoye started an Iowa run that tied the score at 22. Coyle’s kill gave Iowa the lead at 23-22 and a Louis kill sealed the set for the Hawkeyes. She had a team-high five kills during the set.

SET 4 (13-25) Iowa opened the fourth set with a hard kills by Louis, but Colorado pushed through to take a 15-7 lead and never looked back. The Hawkeyes only mustered six more points during the set.

NOTEABLES

Senior Taylor Louis was named to the All-Tournament team. She combined for 37 kills in the tournament.

The Hawkeyes head to the Drake Invitational in Des Moines, Iowa for matchups against South Dakota State and Drake on Sept. 8.
