CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) - Cedar Rapids police say surveillance video from the victim's front porch helped them make an arrest in a theft case. The thieves that do this type of crime have become popularly known as porch pirates.
On Friday officers arrested 40-year-old Stephanie Conyers of Cedar Rapids for theft.
Police say a Ring doorbell system caught Conyers in the act of stealing a package from the front porch of a southwest side home on August 15th around 1:30 p.m. This is a link to that video.
Police say that video led to tips that helped to identify Conyers.
The Cedar Rapids Police Department says while it does not endorse specific products, surveillance systems can both deter crime and help investigators.
