Iowa Travels to Illinois State for Lone Exhibition

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa soccer will travel to Illinois State for an exhibition contest Sunday at 1 p.m. (CT) at Adelaide Street Field in Normal, Illinois.

It is the Hawkeyes’ only exhibition game before opening the regular season Aug. 17 against Missouri at the Iowa Soccer Complex.

“Exhibition games are always great opportunities to compete against another opponent and evaluate the areas you have spent time on in practice," said Iowa head coach Dave DiIanni.

"Illinois State has a long tradition of success so it will be beneficial to see the areas we need to still work on. Individually, I am looking forward to seeing the players that can impact the game in a competitive environment."

Iowa returns eight starters and 17 letterwinners from a squad that won nine games and advanced to the Big Ten Tournament for the first time since 2015.

Illinois State went 9-9-2 last year in head coach Brad Silvey’s first season with the program. The Redbirds return four key players to their roster this year.

Iowa last faced Illinois State in 2015, where Iowa posted a 1-0 victory. The Hawkeyes lead the all-time series 2-1.
