Clarke College President to Retire

Clarke University's President Sister Joanne Burrows announced on July 30 she will be retiring from Clarke starting May 31, 2019.

Burrows has been president of the university located in Dubuque since July 2006.

"The road I chose has had many rewards but it also has meant sacrificing other opportunities, ministries, and relationships. For the past few years, I have felt called to re-examine my focus and look at how I approach my last decade or so in ministry," Burrows said.

In 2018, Burrows celebrated her 40th year ministering in higher education.

While at Clarke, she has helped expand the university's graduate and undergraduate programs and helped facilities on campus inspire students to learn with more opportunities beyond the classroom.

Rob Wahlert, chair of the Clarke University Board of Trustees, said Burrows will work with the university while they search for their 16th president.
