Greene Square Park to go Dry This Weekend

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- The Cedar Rapids City Council amended the Cedar Rapids Municipal Code to prohibit alcohol at Greene Square, at 400 4th Avenue SE.

Beginning on Saturday, July 14, possession and consumption of alcohol, wine or beer, will be prohibited at the park.

Greene Square joins 27 other parks in the city park system that prohibit the possession and consumption of alcohol in the park.

The ordinance does allow groups to apply for a permit to have alcohol in Greene Square for special events. The permit will be issued by the City Council or City Manager, and the group must meet other applicable city code or state law requirements.

For more information and a list of parks where alcohol is prohibited visit the City's website.
