Cheese Curds Return to Kalona

KALONA, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- After four years, cheese curds are being made in Kalona again.

Kalona Creamery has announced they will start producing cheese curds in August 2018. The last time cheese was made at the facility was in 2014, when Twin County Dairy closed its doors.

“We are excited to bring back fresh, squeaky cheese curds to this historic facility,” said Bill Evans, CEO. “We appreciate the support we’ve received from the community. As we’ve said before, we want Kalona Creamery to be a sustainable and long-term business in the Kalona community.”

The Kalona Creamery will be hosting a cheese curd launch party August 11 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The free event is family-friendly and will have samples, photos with 'Lona' the cow mascot, a cheese curd eating challenge, and shopping.
