7 Hawkeyes to Compete at USA Outdoor Championships

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Seven athletes with Hawkeye ties compete this week at the 2018 USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.

 

Sprinters Brittany Brown, Briana Guillory, and Mar’yea Harris, mid-distance runners Carter Lilly and Erik Sowinski, and throwers Laulauga Tausaga and Reno Tuufuli compete for national titles and spots on the United States World Cup team beginning Thursday and ending Sunday.

 

NBC Sports and the Olympic Channel will broadcast the championships. Complete results and a competition schedule are available at USATF.org.

 

Harris, Tausaga, and Tuufuli are coming off first-team All-America performances at the 2018 NCAA Championships on June 6-9. Harris is competing in the 400 meters, an event he placed fourth in at NCAA’s. Tausaga placed fourth in discus and shot put at the NCAA Championships and will compete in both events in Des Moines. Tuufuli will throw the discus, an event he placed fifth in at NCAA’s.

 

Guillory is racing the 400. She was an indoor All-American in the event in 2018. Brown, who placed 14th at NCAA’s, will race the 200. Carter Lilly, who redshirted during Iowa’s outdoor season, will race the 800 with Sowinski, a former Hawkeye All-American and national indoor champion.

 

The Athletics World Cup in London is July 14-15 at London Stadium. This week’s national championships event is also a selection meet for the 2018 Thorpe Cup in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on July 27-28.

Finals – Saturday at 4:08 p.m.

 

Mar’yea Harris – 400 meters

First Round – Thursday at 6:40 p.m.

Semis – Friday at 6:20 p.m.

Finals – Saturday at 4:30 p.m.

 

Carter Lilly – 800 meters

First Round – Thursday at 2:40 p.m.

Semis – Friday at 7:05 p.m.
