CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- On May 26 the Linn County Sheriff's Office and the Iowa DNR participated in a boat inspection event by the Cedar River Boat Club.
During the inspections at the Ellis boat ramp between 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. the Sheriff's Office issued 17 written boating deficiency orders (written warnings).
Four of the boats that were given warnings had improper equipment or registration violations. The boats were not allowed to go on the water.
Some other boats that had violations were rectified by free equipment (fire extinguishers and other safety equipment) the Boat Club gave out.
The Sheriff's Office wants to remind all boaters to make sure their boats meet State requirements before heading into the water.
