Hawkeyes Travel to Western Illinois on Tuesday

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa baseball team travels to Macomb, Illinois, on Tuesday for its final midweek game against Western Illinois. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. (CT).

 

The Hawkeyes are 29-18 overall after going 1-2 last weekend at Northwestern. Iowa won the series finale, 10-7, with sophomore Ben Norman going 3-for-5 with two runs and three RBIs. Freshman Jack Dreyer recorded the win, finishing with six strikeouts to tie his career-high across five innings of work.

 

Senior Tyler Cropley leads the Hawkeyes with a .364 batting average driving in 42 runs off 63 hits and leads the team with 43 RBIs, 17 doubles, and a .618 slugging percentage.

 

Western Illinois is 15-26 overall this season. The Leathernecks have four players hitting over .300, led by Mitch Ellis, who is hitting .377 with seven RBIs, five doubles, and two home runs. The senior has a .519 slugging percentage with 40 total bases on the season.

 

The Leathernecks will send right-hander Jordan Mikel to the mound on Tuesday. The freshman has a 1.86 ERA and is 3-0 in one start and 14 appearances. He has pitched a total of 19 1/3 innings, allowing 18 hits, while walking 16 and striking out 24.

 

Tuesday’s game will be broadcast across the Hawkeye Radio Network and be available on Hawkeye All-Access with Zach Mackey on the call.

 

Following Tuesday’s game, the Hawkeyes close out the regular season hosting Penn State from May 17-19 at Duane Banks Field. Thursday’s series opener is scheduled for a 6:05 p.m. (CT) start.
