North Liberty Man Reaches Plea Deal

A North Liberty man accused of trying to hire a hit man has reached a plea deal.

Justin Dewitt was facing four charges of attempted murder and four counts of solicitation to commit murder. Police say he tried to hire an undercover agent he thought was a hit man to kill his coworker, the co-workers' wife and their two children in 2016.

Dewitt withdrew his not guilty pleas during a Monday hearing. He has now pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted murder and two counts of solicitation to commit murder.

His sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 16 at 11:30 a.m.

Dewitt still awaits his trial in Muscatine County for allegedly trying to hire another inmate to kill a Public Safety Department Agent and two other people ahead of his trial. A hearing in that matter is scheduled for May 25.
