Iowa City Mother Charged after Stabbing Threat

An Iowa City mother is facing charges after police said she threatened to stab her juvenile son.

According to court documents, it happened about 9 a.m. Wednesday in the 1100 block of Hollywood Boulevard.

Police said 45-year-old Teresa Richardson was in an apartment parking lot with her son. He told officers he and his mother got into an argument about money she said he owed her. The juvenile said Richardson grabbed a knife and threatened to stab him. Police said the son had a small cut on one hand he said was caused by his mother swinging the knife at him.

Officers said Richardson admitted to swinging the knife at her son, but said she did not mean to cut him.

Police arrested Richardson Thursday. She was being held in the Johnson County Jail in lieu of $2,500 bond.
