Anamosa has a new police chief.
In a special session Tuesday night, the city council approved hiring Jeremiah Hoyt for the position. Hoyt is a sergeant with the Carroll Police Department.
The council said it was difficult decision, weeding the 42 applicants to 9, then to 5 before picking Hoyt.
The council in February fired former chief Bob Simonson after an investigation showed he sent racist and sexist emails to co-workers.
