Allgeyer Named B1G Pitcher of the Week

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa redshirt junior Nick Allgeyer has been named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week, it was announced Monday by the league office.  The honor is Allgeyer's second of the season.

The St. Louis native earned the distinction after tossing seven strong innings in Iowa's 4-2 victory over No. 7 Michigan on April 27 at Duane Banks Field.  The southpaw allowed one run on five hits and tied a career-high with eight strikeouts.  It was Allgeyer's 10th straight quality start.

The series-opening victory snapped Michigan's 20-game winning streak and it was Iowa's first win over a top-10 ranked opponent since 2008.

Allgeyer is 5-3 with a 2.18 ERA in 11 starts this season.  He is second in the Big Ten with 61 strikeouts and his 70 1/3 innings are third most in the conference.

Iowa has had three Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honorees this season.  Allgeyer was also honored April 16, while Brady Schanuel was a co-honoree on March 26.

The Hawkeyes return to action Tuesday, hosting Missouri at 3:05 p.m. (CT) at Duane Banks Field.  Iowa also hosts Western Illinois on Wednesday at 6:05 p.m. before welcoming No. 17 Oklahoma State to town for a three-game weekend series.
