TigerHawk Logo To Adorn Iowa Water Tower

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa Athletics Department announced Friday its plan to add the Tigerhawk logo and block IOWA lettering to the UI water tower that sits outside the northeast corner of Kinnick Stadium.

“Seeing our iconic Tigerhawk logo on the water tower has been a topic of conversation since the day I arrived,” said Gary Barta, Henry B. and Patricia B. Tippie Director of Athletics Chair.  “Over the years we have continued to showcase our powerful brand.  We are excited that beginning next season, in addition to the 70,000 fans in Kinnick Stadium, the logo on the water tower will be viewed by millions of people around the country and worldwide on television.”

The Tigerhawk on the water tower will match the logo on the Kinnick Stadium playing surface (black background, gold trim), which was added prior to the 2017 season.  The Tigerhawk logo will stretch 24 feet wide and measure 15 feet, 5.75 inches in height.  The IOWA logo will measure 24 feet wide and seven feet, 9 1/8 inches in height.  The height of the water tower tank is 70 feet.

The project will begin this summer and is scheduled for completion prior to the Sept. 1 opening game against Northern Illinois.  Tank Logos, from Franklin, Tennessee, will install both the Tigerhawk logo and the block IOWA lettering.  Cost of the branding project is expected to be $25-30,000, and will be paid for with Athletics Department resources, using no University general fund dollars.

The Tigerhawk logo will face southwest, to align with the northeast corner of Kinnick Stadium.  The IOWA lettering will be placed on the northwest side of the water tower.
