Hawkeyes Fall to Gophers, 4-3

IOWA CITY, Iowa-- The University of Iowa women’s tennis team fell to Minnesota, 4-3, on Friday on the Klotz Outdoor Tennis Courts at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex.

The Gophers grabbed the doubles point to start off the match with wins on courts No. 2 and No. 3.

In singles the Hawkeyes dropped their first two matches on courts No. 5 and No. 6.

Senior Zoe Douglas grabbed Iowa's first win of the evening by defeating Tina Kreinis at the No. 2 position in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.

Junior Adorabol Huckleby forced her match at the No. 4 position into a third set tiebreaker by streaking through the second set, 6-0, but eventually fell to Barbara Mancera, 6-1, 0-6, 6-2.

Sophomore Elise van Heuvelen got the Hawkeyes’ second win of the match by topping Caroline Ryba, 7-5, 6-4, at the No. 1 position.

Senior Anastasia Reimchen closed the match with a bang at the No. 3 position by downing AnneMarie Emme in a third-set tiebreaker, 6-4, 6-7(9), 10-6.

“I want to finish strong, and finish on a high note," Reimchen said. "I think all the seniors do. We were talking the other day about how incredibly lucky we are to be on this team with Sasha and the other girls. The most important thing is that we want to go out strong, confident, and give it all we’ve got.”

QUOTING HEAD COACH SASHA SCHMID

“We had another competitive Big Ten match. It is tough to not get over hump to get that fourth point. I am very proud of the effort the girls showed today. We need to regroup and get ready for exciting finale on Sunday.”
