IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa softball team dropped an 8-0 decision to Minnesota in six innings Thursday evening at Pearl Field.
Minnesota jumped on the board early, scoring three runs in the top of the second. The Gophers started with a walk and an RBI double to center and used that momentum to send five more batters to the plate in the inning.
The Hawkeyes were able to send the Gophers back to the dugout in order in the third and fourth innings, but Minnesota added a pair of runs in the fifth and sealed the win with three runs in the sixth.
Allison Doocy (12-9) took the loss in the circle. The sophomore allowed five runs – four earned – on five hits and one walk in five innings of work. Senior Kenzie Ihle came in relief in the sixth, allowing three runs on four hits.
QUOTING HEAD COACH MARLA LOOPER
“We didn’t make the adjustments we needed to tonight. Right now, we need to work the process and do some different things to give ourselves an opportunity for a different result. We need to clean some things up for tomorrow. The nice thing about a three-game series is that we have another chance to step on the field and learn lessons from tonight.”
