New Price Tag for Linn Co. Health Building

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG TV9)- Linn County Supervisors have cut the price tag on the county’s new public health building by about $2.5-million dollars.

Supervisors are still using a “lease-purchase” arrangement with a contractor to construct the Dr. Percy and Lileah Harris Public Health Building. The original not-to-exceed price under the deal was $31.1-million dollars.

On Wednesday, supervisors made some changes to cut the cost.

The size of the building will remain the same—55,000 square feet.

But some changes in materials and construction methods will cut the not-to-exceed price to $28.6-million.

Supervisors say a change in flooring, removing limestone veneer from the side of the building and switching to an on-site backup generator contributed to the biggest share of savings.

Groundbreaking on the new county building is set for May 18th.
