Woman Killed in Hwy 30 Crash Thursday Morning

TAMA COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- A Tama woman has died following a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 30 at RR Avenue, about 8 miles east of Tama.

The Iowa State Patrol said it happened about 9:50 a.m. Thursday. Investigators said 40-year-old James Novotny of Exeter, Nebraska was driving west on U.S. 30 and crossed the center line onto the eastbound shoulder.

64-year-old Charlene Rosenfelder of Tama was driving east and tried to avoid the semi by going onto the eastbound shoulder. The semi then crashed into Rosenfelder's SUV.

Troopers said Rosenfelder died at the scene. An ambulance took Novotny to a hospital in Marshalltown with unspecified injuries.

The patrol continues investigating the crash.

The Tama County Sheriff's Office, Tama Police Department, Belle Plaine Ambulance, Chelsey Fire Department, and Belle Plaine Fire Department assisted the patrol.
